The EZ Bio 11 has a single gray core filter element. This gray core element is 4 inch diameter and 7.5 inch long. The older style Blue cores are no longer available. The EZ Bio 20 has 2 filter core elements; an internal Gray core combined with a larger Green outer core element. The outer Green core element is 8 inch diameter and 7.5" long.
These core elements slide over a rigid slotted pipe. This rigid slotted pipe has a 1.5" male thread on one end and a 1.5" female thread on the other end. It is possible to connect multiple slotted pipes together to extend the length of the EZ Bio.
Replacement core elements are available in Gray size 4"dia. x 7.5" and Green size 8"dia. x 7.5".

A small submerged biological filter is capable of filtering up to a 500 gallon fish pond. Installed on the inlet side of the pump using a 3/4" FPT port. Prefiltration is extremely important. Solid waste accumulates daily in a pond and is the number one problem for filtration. Algae growth, excess food, fish waste, leaves and yard debris, aquatic plant material all accumulate and foul your pond. A prefilter will focus on removing these solids regularly. The prefilter will protect the pump from clogging and prevent heavy debris from entering the biofilter. Your maintenance will be mostly focused on solids removal and a good prefilter will make this job easier.
Prefilters may be attached directly to your submersible pump or to an external pump. Leaf traps ot the Mega Strainer leaf traps will attach to an external pump. The EZ Bio filters, the Rio Prefilter, Pond Master 1000 and the Patio Ponds Little Sub will attach to your submersible pump.
A settling tank is an ideal prefilter where the solids settle out in a large tank before reaching the pump or biofilter. A Vortex Settling tank or Cyclone will spin the dirt to the center and facilitates settling of solids.
Waterways Leaf Trap
If you will be using any of the Sequence 750 or Sequence 1000, PerformancePro Cascade, Watertways Executive, Iron Might or Tiny Might pumps, and are planning on placing the pump before the filtration system, it is required by the manufacturers to have a leaf trap/priming pot in order for your warranty to be valid.
To use this Leaf Trap with any pump other than a Waterways or Wave pumps you will need an adapter below.

Cyclone or Vortex settling tanks function best when fed directly by the bottom drains via gravity flow. In this way the solids are not ground up by the pump. As the water enters the tangental port it spins towards the outside of the tank. This creates a laminar flow of water which is slightly slower than the rest of the flow. This layer allows debris to settle to the bottom of the cone where you can drain to waste. Ideally waste should be by gravity but more typically you must pump to waste. Vortex systems are flow rate dependent. Do not send water through faster than the manufacturer recommends. Typically, slower flow rates work better. You can try this flow rate for example: Divide the gallons of water in the vortex by 4 to give you the flow rate in gallons per minute. If the tank holds 100 gallons divide by 4 gives 25 gallons per minute.

This Cetus Sieve has a variable inlet height using the unique patented Pondflow regulation system – for use when gravity fed. This allows water levels within the pond to drop without causing the circulating pump to be starved of water. The Cetus Sieve will allow a skimmer or a bottom drain to accept vast amounts of waste without excessive cleaning needed to be carried out. The water must then be pumped to either a normal filter above pond level or to a pressurised filter.
If pump fed, the Cetus Sieve is placed above pond water level and then the exit water is gravity dropped into your main filter.
It is advised that all pressurised filters be pre-filtered using a Cetus Sieve to reduce excessive backwashing and maintenance due to heavy solids.
